Mendenhall PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: Describe present appearance of structure/site,then contrast and compare that with it's original appearance, noting additions,alterations,and changes in materials. Discuss significant architectural features. This two-story double-family residence has an irregular plan with a hipped roof open front porch with a gable over the front steps and solid railing. The two-bay facade is asymmetrical and consists of an off-set front entrance with 1/1 double-hung and fixed windows. The frame construction is finished in asbestos shingles and an unusual gable ornamentation adorns the front facade. The house rests on a concrete foundation. The gable roof is covered with asphalt shingles and has a flat-roofed back addition covered with metal . There is a rear brick chimney and returning eaves on the gable ends. Outbuildings include a detached garage in poor condition. HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE: justify how the persons,important events.and/or historical catterns assoc ated with the str,cT,rersi:e and surrounding area lend the property significance. This residence property was built for George E. Davis. He came to the Springhill area Tiorth of Bozeman in 1878. He farmed in this area until he moved into Bozeman in 1893 when he built his home. In 1900 he was elected to the office of Gallatin County Commissioner. 1?e owned the property until 1907 . This structure qualifies as a contributing element within a potential historic district due to its association with the residential aspect of the Village Phase of BozemanIs historic/architectural development.
