This detached one-story single-family residence has a square plan with a gable defining the entry which has a newer flat=roof addition. The two-bay facade is asymmetrical and consists of an offset front entrance with fixed and 3/1 double-hung windows. The frame construction is finished in shingles and rests on a concrete foundation. The gable roof is covered with wood shakes and features overhanging eaves. The axis of the roof is parallel to the street. Alterations include the enclosure of the front porch plus the flat roof-extension with pipe columns. Outbuildings include a garage. HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE: Justify how the persons,important events,and/or historical patterns associated with the structure/site and surrounding area lend the property significance. This property was built for Deane B. Swingle, a professor of botony and bacteriology at Montana State College from 1906 to 1943. He also served as Dean of Science from 1932-33 and 1941-43 and vice president of the college from 1941-1943.- This structure qualifies as a contributing element within a potential historic district due to its association with the residential aspect of the Nationali- zation Phase of Bozeman 's historic/architectural development.
