Revision 1985
Well preserved overall, though completely covered by asbestos shingle sheathing,
this typical, vernacular, Queen Anne period house was probably built by John
Robertson, a Canadian who settled in Montana in 1882. Robertson was listed
at this address as City Marshal in 1892, and a carpenter in 1900. In 1904 he
was Chief of Police, and by 1910 he had moved to a house at Dell Place. In
9122, Robertson built a simple Bungalow in the district, 303 E. Olive. Robertson
may have built this house himself. Joseph S. Van Winkle apparently lived here
for a short time around 1909, before moving to Columbus, Montana.
