Discuss significant architectural features. This detached one-and-one-half story multi-family residence has a rectan- gular plan with a wrap-around hipped-roof porch and exterior stairs added to accommodate the upstairs apartments. The one-bay facade is asymmetrical and consists of an offset front entrance with fixed and 1/1 double-hung windows, the front and side windows having leaded stained glass. The frame construction is finished in bevel siding with shingles in the gable ends and rests on a low rubble stone foundation. The gable roof is covered with asphalt shingles and features a gable dormer and overhanging eaves. There are two brick chimneys. The axis of the roof is perpendicular to the street and there is a one-and-one-half story garage with bevel siding (which was removed later) . HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE: Justify how the persons,important events,and/or historical patterns associated with the structurelsite and surrounding area lend the property significance. Research in the sources consulted in this survey has not yielded any significant historical information concerning persons or events associated i with this property. i This structure qualifies as a contributing element within a potential historic district due to its association with the residential aspect of the Civic Phase of Bozeman 's historic/architectural development. Tracy next door, this house was apparently built by Nelson Catlin, a carpenter from Minnesota who settled in Bozeman in 1872. According to Sanborn Maps, the house was built in 1890, with a wrap-around porch like the present one, which is probably original . By 1906, Thomas H. Rea, proprietor of the Thomas H. Rea & Co. Grocery Store located in the building still standing at 11 E Main, resided here. By 1927 Frances McClure was the occupant.
