304 S. Tracy
One of the most architecturally significant houses in Bozeman dating from
the building boom triggered in the early 1880's, this well detailed brick
house was built by R.P. Vivian - Bozeman pioneer, lawyer and county judge.
The house is located on a prominent corner lot, and is an important element
inz.a very cohesive streetscape. `
Vivian was born in Minnesota, and lived in Texas and Mexico before
arriving in Montana in 1864. He served as a member of the two Montana
legislative assemblies in 1872 and 1877, and as district attorney for
the second judicial district for four years. He was also a member of
the Constitutional .Convention of 1884, representing Gallatin County.
By 1900, the house was under different ownership, probably Charles Esgar.
