This two-story single-family residence has a T-shaped plan with a three-bay porch with a hipped roof and a south side porch as well . The one-bay facade is asymmetrical and consists of a central glass-paned front entrance with 1/1 double-hung windows. The frame construction is finished in shiplap and sits on a rubblestone foundation. The gable roof is covered with cedar shingles and is parallel to the street. Outbuildings include a garage. This property is significant because it is associated with a person important to the history of Bozeman, Richard and May McDonald. The McDonald family arrived in Montana first in Virginia City and then settled in Bozeman in 1872. Soon after they constructed this small frame house and their heirs have occupied the house since that time. The McDonalds were prominent members of the small black community in Bozeman. This structure qualifies as a contributing element within a potential historic district due to its association with the residential aspect of the Townsite Phase of Bozeman 's historic/architectural development.
