This one-and-one-half story double-family residence has an irregular plan
with an open front porch on one corner under a hipped roof. The two-bay
facade is asymmetrical and consists of an offset front entrance with
1/1 double-hung windows and a stained-glass transomed fixed window. The
frame construction is finished in beveled siding with -*&a-cated shingles
in the gable ends. The gable roof is covered with-a-soalt shingles and
the foundation is of rubble stone. There is a z6rbelled chimney through
the roof and and end chimney of brick. Out�a"`ildings include a garage and

and surrounding area lend the property significance.
This property is significant because it is associated with a person important
to Bozeman history, Michael Langohr., who arrived in Montana from Michigan
in 1881 and established a fruit and grocery business in Bozeman in 1892.
When he purchased this house in 1902 he began growing produce himself
and expanded into a commercial floral and fruit business. When he added
greenhouses to the west and south of this house, the only other structure
in the block was at 303 South Tracy. Langohr' s Nursery expanded enough so
that by the mid 1920' s , the business would move to its present location at
1100 South Tracy.

An excellent, vernacular example of the- Queen Anne style, this well-
preserved house makes an important contribution to a very cohesive street-
acape. It was built in 1890 by G. J. Niles, a tinner who came to Montana
in 1868 from Illinois. By 1900, Niles had moved to 132 E. Main (old
address) and ran a rooming house: 'The house is better known for its next
occupant, Michael Langohr, who in 1900 was a U.S. Forest Ranger, but by
1904 had commenced his florist business, in connection with which
extensive greenhouses were constructed behind this house. A tall , c. 1930
smokestack presently standing farther south on S. Tracy Ave. is probably
all that remains of other Langohr greenhouses. This house remained in
the Langohr family at least through the 1940's , and the business is still
prominent in Bozeman.
