E' I 1 io . — — - 501 S. Trac Despite the unfortunate enclosure of the full front porch, a major detracting feature, this house is nevertheless a significant example of the "American Foursquare" house type, with slight Colonial Revival style detailing. Prominently located where Story Street meets S. Tracy Avenue, the house is an important element of the streetscape. It takes on added significance as one group of three Colonial Revival style houses all designed by local architect Fred F. Willson (505 and 509 S. Tracy are the others) . The house was built in about 1914 for Eugene F. Bunker, a lawyer. Bunker had moved by 1927. The residents listed for that year were Louis L. Howard, a professor at Montana State College, and his wife Maybelle Howard. They remained here into the 1930's. The builder of the house was probably Elmer L. Bartholomew - Bozeman's most significant early 20th century house carpenter who was knows to have collaborated with Willson on several houses, including probably 505 S. Tracy, next door. This house is similar to, though much simpler than "House Design No. 2047" in Hodgson' s Mail Order House Pattern catalog (see appendix) .
