This detached two-story single-family residence has a T-shaped plan with the original front porch now closed in. The facade consists of casement, fixed and 1/1 double-hung windows and a second story open porch on a pedestal and column. There is an arched window recessed into the second story, and the front entrance is recessed with a triangular pediment. The frame construction is finished in weatherboard and staggered butt shingles on the second story and attic. The structure rests on a rubble stone foundation covered with concrete. The gable roof is covered with green asphalt shingles and features a five-window dormer and a brick exterior chimney and metal stovepipe. HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE: Justify how the persons,important events,and/or historical patterns associated with the structure/site and surrounding area lend the property significance. This property is significant because this residence is associated with a person important to Bozeman history, John A. Luce. Son of early Bozeman resident and distinguished judge, John A. Luce graduated from Columbia University in Washington, D.C. in 1885 and formed a partnership with his father, Luce and Luce. lie served as County Attorney of Gallatin County. This structure qualifies as a contributing element within a potential historic district due to its association with the residential aspect of the Civic Phase of Bozeman 's historic/architectural development.
