430 S. Black
V
Virtually identical to 429 S. Black directly across the street, but of
reverse plan, this house (as well as 429 S. Black) was built by local
carpenter, John A. Bartholomew. , The two ornate, Bungalow style houses
bear the subtle, yet unmistakable characteristics of Bartholomew's
style, and are very important elements in the district. The original
Chicago picture window was unfortunately replaced recently with one
of modern design and material .
Like most of Bartholomew' s designs , this one appears to have been
strongly influenced by a pattern in Hodgson' s house pattern catalog,
in this case, "House Design No. 3004" (see appendix) .
