PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: Describe present appearance of structure/site,then contrast and compare that with it's original appearance, noting additions,alterations,and changes in materials. Discuss significant architectural features. This detached one-story single-family residence has a rectangular plan with a gable-roofed front porch with solid railing. The one-bay facade is asymmetrical and consists of an off-center front entrance with 1/1 double-hung windows and a large picture window. The frame construction is finished in 2" beveled siding up to the 2' level above the foundation, and shingles on the upper part. The structure rests on a concrete foundation. The gable roof is covered with asphalt shingles and features overhanging eaves with exposed rafters and knee braces. There is a central brick chimney. The axis of the roof is perpendicular to the street. 1 HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE: Justify how the persons,important events,and/or historical patterns associated with the structure/site and surrounding area lend the property significance. This structure qualifies as a contributing element within a potential historic district due to its association with the residential aspect of the Progressive Phase of Bozemants historic/architectural development. Black An excellent example of the Bungalow style in Bozeman typical. of the city' s early 20th century building boom, this house was apparently built for Nelson Baverly in abol_it. 1920, the date of the sewer permit. Baverly, who was listed as living at 308 S. Black as late as 1916, was part owner of the firm, "Levesque, Felsheim and Baverly" - contractors and proprietors of the Bozeman Manufacturing Co. after the turn of the century. Baverly lived here until his death in 1932 at age 57. This house is very similar to several found in the Cooper Park Historic District.
