This two-story commercial structure has a rectangular plan with an inset central front entrance flanked by two cement Roman Doric pillars. The one-bay facade is symmetrical and consists of a high arched-glass front entrance with two fixed, transomed windows on the first level and three 5-paned double-hung windows on the second level , with steel lintels and wood sashes. The frame construction is finished in concrete stone in running bond pattern and brick coursing, with a concrete molding decorating each level . It rests on a stucco-covered foundation and has a flat built-up roof. Its original form appears to be intact . This structure is in the Classical Revival style. The axis of the roof is perpendicular to the street. HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE: Justify how the persons,important events,and/or historical patterns associated with the structure/site and surrounding area lend the property significance. Now entitled the First West Building, this structure was originally the National Bank of Gallatin Valley, with J.E. Martin as president. The building was constructed in 1906. Classical Revival elements such as rusticated cast stone, paneled frieze and fluted columns dominate the facade, which has a composition suggesting a Roman "triumphal arch" motif. This structure is potentially eligible for the National Register because of its historical significance and because of its architectural significance. INTEGRITY: Assess the degree to which the structure/site,and surrounding area accurately convey the historical associations of the property. The historic integrity of this property has been retained due to the survival of original design and materials and continuity of use, setting and location.
