PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: Describe present appearance of structure/site,then contrast and compare that with it's original appearance,
noting additions,alterations,and changes in materials.Discuss significant architectural features.
This detached two-story civic structure has a rectangular plan with a
one-story back addition. The symmetrical facade consists of a central
arched transomed entrance with matching arched windows on either side.
The rest of the windows in the structure are 6/6 double-hung. The
brick construction rests on a stone foundation and has a flat roof with
distinctive dentiled cornice moulding around the top. The brick
facade has corbeled sections emphasizing the window friezes. The axis
of the roof is parallel to the street.
HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE: Justify how the persons,important events,and/or historical patterns associated with the structurelsite
and surrounding area lend the property significance.
The Old Post Office, now used by the Army Reserve, is remembered for its
carbide gas lamps and a catwalk said to have been used for surveillance of
the main sorting area. The brick structure, with its arched windows
and dentilled cornice, was built in 1915 and outgrown in the 1960's. In
1964, the new post office and Federal Building on Babcock was dedicated.
The Old Post Office occupies the site where Nelson Story's original
Bozeman dwelling once stood.
This structure is potentially eligible for the National Register because
of its historical significance and because of its architectural significance.

of original design and materials and continuity of use, setting and location.
