This attached one-story-commercial structure has a rectangular plan with two
different storefronts , one of running bond brick applied in 1983 over the original
facade and the other of painted brick. The asymmetrical facade consists of
two front entrances with storefront windows at street level and three small
fixed windows at street level in the second store to match an arched brick entrance
The original facade of cast iron or decorative metal shows above the brick and the
decorative cornice is significant in detail . The brick construction is painted
on one side, left natural on the other, and has a flat built-up roof.

123 E. Main
1985 revision
Matt Cohen, surveyor
This small , 1-story commercial block, despite a major non-contributing remodeling
of the western of its two storefronts , is a significant element in a group of
four progressively taller 19th century buildings which terminates with the Masonic
Temple (137 E. Main) to the east. In addition, the building retains its ornate,
pressed metal , Italianate/Queen Anne style cornice, and a c. 1920 storefront in
the eastern half of the building which has a full transom and glazed brick dado.
That storefront is one of the last historically significant storefronts
remaining in the district. No less significant are the two neon signs that hang
perpendicular to the building - the c. 1945, streamline Moderne "Bar" sign on
the west, and especially, the c. 1960 "Pines Cafe" sign on the east.
A c. 1907 photograph shows a triangular cornice pediment that originally topped
the cornice between the center two brackets. The west storefront was probably
remodeled in 1972, since it is very similar to the adjacent building to the west
(121 E. Main) , which was remodeled in that year.
