Grand Revision 1985 This typical, vernacular Queen Anne style house retains high integrity, and is an important element in the streetscape due to its large size. Some time between 1892 and 1900, Joseph L. Staats, a lawyer moved into the house and remained until about 1910. By 1904, Staats ran a law, real estate, loan and insurance company, and had Guy H. Hinds, a dentist, as a boarder. By 1910, Staats had moved to 725 S. 3rd Avenue. Undocumented information on the 1984 inventory indicates that the house was designed by architect John Johnson (listed in no city directories) , and built by and for A.J. Hemphill. The house does not, however, appear to be architect-designed. I Bibliography Application for Sewer Connection, J.L. Staats, Sept. 25, 1903. Bird's Eye View, 1898.
