Grand Revision 1985 An important element in the district due to its large size and corner location, this vernacular house is well preserved, with the exception of the asbestos shingle sheathing. Though the present porch is clearly shown on the 1904 Sanborn map, it appears to have been glassed-in around 1920. The glazing is a significant later addition. Undocumented evidence on the 1984 survey form indicates that the builder and original owner of the house was J.R. Scahill. Scahill also built the E.W. King House, 725 S. Willson, and the Gallatin State Bank Building, 2 W. Main. In the 1900 and 1904-5 City directories, Lewis E. Safley, "physician and surgeon", was listed at this address. Bibliography 1.
