PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: Describe present appearance of structurelsite,then contrast and compare that with it's original appearance, noting additions,alterations,and changes in materials.Discuss significant architectural features. This detached one-and-one-half story signle-family residence has an irregular plan in the Queen Anne Style. The three-bay facade is asymmetrical and consists of an offset transomed front entrance with crescent windows above. There are 1/1 double-hung windows and fixed windows on the rest of the structure. The bearing wall construction is finished in brick with imbricated shingles in the gable ends. It rests on a rubble foundation. The gable-to-hip- roof is covered with asphalt shingles and features a pair of gabled dormers on the side, as well as two separate gabled extensions to the front. There is a central brick chimney. Theaxis of the roof is perpendicular to the street. Outbuildings include a garage of wood. HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE: Justify how the persons,important events,and/or historical patterns associated with the structure/site and surrounding area lend the property significance. Research into the sources consulted in this survey has not yielded any significant historical information concerning persons or events connected with this property. J.N. Brown was a Bozeman brickmaker who arrived in Montana in 1872 from Iowa. Significance: This structure qualifies as a contributing element within a potential historic district due to its association with the residential aspect of the Civic Phase of Bozeman' s historic/architectural development. INTEGRITY. Assess the degree to which the structure/site,and surrounding area accurately convey the historical associations of the property. The historic integrity of this property has been retained due to the survival of original materials and design , and continuity of use , setting and location.
