Matt Cohen 609 S. Grand
Revision 1985
Unique in the city as a modest pattern book house with a column-supported, arcaded,
recessed front porch, this house appears to have been based ' generally upon a
House Design No. 1037" in Hodgson's turn of the century mail-order house pattern
catalog. The house has undergone two major alterations - the additions of modern
picture windows in the first floor, and a garage and car port on the north side
- though the high overall architectural quality of the house is nevertheless
very apparent.
Miss Kate Calvin built both this house and the one next to it, 613-615 S. Grand
on what was one large lot. Calvin taught music at Montana State College from
1894 to 1904. In the 1904-5 City directory, Calvin was listed as rooming at
408 S. Willson Ave.
