Grand Revision 1985 Typical of the several modest brick houses built by local builder A.J. Svorkmoe in the district and elsewhere in the city around the turn of the century, this house is well preserved, and appears to have been based on "House Design No. 1061: in Fred T. Hodgson's mail order house pattern catalog of the period. The entrance porch is non-contributing. Slightly more expensive variations on this house design, such as 608 S. Grand, include a projecting left bay. This house is probably the one mentioned in the Avant Courier of September 1, 1900 that was built speculatively by Svorkmoe, and promptly sold to J.H. Baker. Joseph H. Baker was, in 1900, Assistant Cashier of the Bozeman National Bank, and was listed at this address in that year. That article noted several of the newly constructed houses in this of the district, encompassed in the Fairview addition. By 1906, Henry Monforton, a farmer and rancher who had come to Montana from Canada in 1863, was living here. Bibliography Application for Sewer Connection, Henry Monforton, May 29, 1906 .
