Lewis PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: Describe present appearance of structure/site,then contrast and compare that with it's original appearance, noting additions,alterations,and changes in materials.Discuss significant architectural features. This detached one-story single-family residence has a square plan with an open front entry with concrete steps. There are wood post railings and a hipped roof supported by wood columns. The one-bay facade is symmetrical and consists of a central glass-paned front entrance flanked by double-hung windows with 1/1 sash arrangement. There is a cornice trim over the windows and wood shutters flank the windows. The frame construction is finished in 4" bevel siding with trim band and rests on a raised concrete foundation. The hipped roof is covered with grey-green asbestos shingles and features cornice eaves. There is one central brick chimney. There are no alterations; the house is well maintained. Outbuildings include a pair of garage apartments. HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE: Justify how the persons,important events,and/or historical patterns associated with the structurelsite and surrounding area lend the property significance. Matt Cohen 316 S. Third Revision 1985 This well preserved vernacular house is the first built by Thomas Noble after his settlement in Bozeman in 1882 from Missouri . Noble is listed at this location in the 1892-3 city directory. After 1903, when Noble moved across the street to his new house, 311 S. Third, Miles P. Lewis , a grocer, moved in here.
