The one-bay facade is asymmetrical and consists of an offset glass-paned front entrance with double-hung windows with a 1/1 window sash arrangement, and a nice porthole on the second floor. Windows under gable ends are of diamond paned glass. The frame construction is finished in asbestos siding and rests on a concrete foundation. The cross-gable roof is covered with grey asbestos shingles and features one gable roofed dormer. There is one central corbeled brick chimney: The axis of the roof is perpendicular to the street and an addition of a back side porch had been included. Outbuildings include a garage. I H'STORICAL SIGNIFICANCE: Justify how the persons, important events,and/or historical patterns associated with the structure/site 1 ( and surrounding area lend the property significance. I Matt Cohen 517 S. third Revision 1985 A very significant example of the Colonial Revival style relative to Bozeman, this house is an important element in the streetscape for both its architectural signi- ficance and its large size. Were it not for the asbestos shingle sheathing, the house would probably be of primary significance in the district. William L. Holloway, a lawyer with- a firm Holloway & Hoffman, probably built this house speculatively. From about 1900 to 1904, he lived at 217 S. Third, until moving to Helena.
