This detached two-story single-family residence has a square plan with front and back porches on lattice bases and hipped roofs with gable overdoors. The symmetri- cal facade has an off-center front entrance with 2/2 double-hung windows with shutters and a lattice window in the dormer. The frame construction is finished in clapboard and rests on a cut stone foundation. The hipped roof is covered with cedar shingles and features gabled and hipped dormers and a central brick chimney. Outbuildings include a shiplap sided garage. HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE: Justify how the persons,important events,and/or historical patterns associated with the structure/sit:; and surrounding area lend the property significance. This property was built for Agnes Foster, widow of Dr. Henry W. Foster, a prominent Bozeman physician and founder of the Foster Sanitarium. On 1915 , the daughter of Mrs. Foster, Myrthle and her husband Claude Steffens, a jeweler, moved in the house and lived here for 15 years. Significance: This structure qualifies as a contributing element within a potential historic district due to its associations with the residential aspect of the Civic Phase of Bozeman 's historic/architectural development.
