PHYSI AL DESCRIPTION: Describe present appearance of structure/site,then contrast and compare that with it's original appearance,
noting additions,alterations,and changes in materials. Discuss significant architectural features.
This detached two- and-one- half story double-family residence has a square
plan with a central hall design and a wrap-around hipped porch on the front
corner, with a gable overdoor above the steps, and a spindle railing. There is
also a remodeled back porch with wrought-iron railing. The asymmetrical facade
consists of a central front entrance with 1/1 double-hung windows with shutters.
There are two diamond-paned double-hung windows in the central front dormer.
The frame construction is finished in 4" clapboard and shingles in the gable ends.
It rests on a cut stone foundation . The gable roof is covered with brown asphalt
shingles and features a hipped dormer and returning eaves-orilalitented eaves.
There is a central brick chimney. The axis of the roof is parallel to the street.
Outbuildings include a barn-garage of dropped wood siding.

This property was built for Joseph Baker, a banker. In 1895, he built a
home at 601 South Grand.
Significance: This structure qualifies as a contributing element within a
potential historic district, due to its association with the residential aspect
of the Civic Phase of Bozeman' s historic/architectural development.
INTEGRITY: Assess the degree to which the structure/site,and surrounding area accurately convey the historical associations of the
property.
The historic integrity of this property has been retained due to the survival
of original design and materials , and continuity of use, setting and location.

I The first house in the next block is a white two story clapboard building. It
has a steep gable roof with a dormer on the east. A wide open wood porch begins in
front center and wraps around the south corner. In the front a flight of wood steps
leads to the porch; there is a small pediment above the steps in the porch roof. '
Windows on both 'Floors are shuttered; these are painted maroon . The north-south
attic gable walls are shingled and are also maroon. "
