PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: Describe present appearance of structure/site,then contrast and compare that with it's original appearance,
noting additions,alterations,and changes in materials. Discuss significant architectural features.
This detached one-and-one-half story double-family residence has an L-shaped plan
with a two-story gabled bay extension with a recessed front porch below supported
by Roman doric columns. The facade is asymmetrical and consists of a central
front entrance with 1/1 double-hung windows. The frame construction is finished
in 2" clapboard and has shingles on the second story. It rests on an uncoursed
fieldstone foundation. The gable-hipped combination roof is covered with green
asphalt shingles and features returning, boxed eaves and an exterior brick chimney
The outbuildings include a barn-converted-to-two-car-garage with dropped wood
siding.
HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE: Justify how the persons,important events,and/or historical patterns associated with the structure/site
and surrounding area lend the property significance.
This property is significant because the residence is associated with a person
important to Bozeman history, Edward M. Gardner. Built by Frank Vreeland, a
local builder of note, this house was constructed in 1898 at a cost of
$8,000. Gardner settled in Bozeman in 1879 raising cattle and establishing
a real estate and insurance business that continues today. Gardner sold
the house in 1908 upon the completion of a new residence at 713 South Willson.
Significance: T is structure qualifies a:_ a contributing element within a
potential historic district due to its associations with the residential aspect
of the Civic Phase of Bozeman' s historic/architectural development.

The historic integrity of this property has not been retained due to changes
in design and materials.
