This small , gable front. 2x2 bay, 11, story novelty-sided house has a small , dimin- ished rear wing, and modest, Queen Anne style ornament. The door, in the right bay of the gable front, has two long, round headed, glazed panels. Windows have i 2/2 sash. In the left gable front bay, adjacent to the door, is a rectangular, shed roofed bay window with paneled spandrels above and below the 1/1 and paired sash windows. The porch, which extends from the bay window to shelter the door, i has a shed roof supported by chamfered posts and incised brackets. The concrete foundation is pierced by translucent windows along the east. This small , very well preserved house displays modest turn of the century ornament, and was built on W. Curtiss Street, while virtually all houses in this area were built along the north-south avenues. The house appears on the 1904 Sanborn Map, but not on the 1898 Bird's Eye View. In 1927, John S. French, of the Johnson - French Motor Co. - probably a mechanic - was living here. In the 1916-17 city directory however, French is listed as boarding at 404 W. Curtiss , and working as a "machinist" at the AAA Repair Shop. By 1938, Ella M. Edsall was living here.
