This small , very well preserved house displays modest turn of the century ornament,
and was built on W. Curtiss Street, while virtually all houses in this area were
built along the north-south avenues. The house appears on the 1904 Sanborn Map,
but not on the 1898 Bird's Eye View. In 1927, John S. French, of the Johnson -
French Motor Co. - probably a mechanic - was living here. In the 1916-17 city
directory however, French is listed as boarding at 404 W. Curtiss , and working as
a "machinist" at the AAA Repair Shop. By 1938, Ella M. Edsall was living here.
