It was built for Mabel Cruickshank in 1939 , the year following the death of her husband , Peter J . Cruickshank . It was built on the site of a former house built in 1917 by Elden C . White . The name Cruickshank is associated with the construction of several houses in the district . This one , like some of the others , was probably intended for rental . In the 1940 city directory , Mrs . Cruickshank is listed as living in Apartment E in 116 S . Black , and Fred L. Morris , along with his wife Blanche , is listed as ! living in this house . Morris was the office manager of the " U . S . A . A . A. " in Bozeman , according to the directory . I Bibliography Application for Sewer Connection , October 3 , 1917 , Elden C . White ( crossed out , with " P . J .
