An excellent example of the Vernacular Colonial Revival style, this house
appears to have been constructed according to "House Design #2040" in
Hodgson' s Practical Bungalows and Cottages for Town and Country, a turn of
the century mail-order house pattern catalog. The house is similar to 420
W. Curtiss.
The house appears on the 1904 Sanborn Map, distinguished by its unusual
recessed entrance, indicating a quite early date for this open plan house
type.
George E. Davis is listed both on the 1907 sewer permit, and in the 1910-11
city directory for this address. In the latter, he is listed as a farmer.
Davis is listed as a county commissioner in the 1904-5 directory, residing
on Mendenhall Street.
