One of the finest examples of the Bungalow/Craftsman style in the district, this
well preserved house is located on a choice corner lot adjacent to Cooper
Park, and displays a rich variety of surface textures and ornamentation. The
house was built by Laben W. Truitt, treasurer of the Gallatin Lumber Co. The
year after building this house,Truitt built the much more modest 317 S. 6th
Ave. next to it, probably for rental .
In 1927, Wilbur J. Duncan, a salesman, and his wife M. Bessye Duncan, were the
residents here.
Five-twenty-three South 7th Ave. appears to be a simplified version of the
same design.
