Ferris Department of Sanitation PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: Describe present appearance of structure/site,then contrast and compare that with it's original appearance, noting additions,alterations,and changes in materials. Discuss significant architectural features. This detached two-story single-family residence has a greek cross plan with a rear addition , a flared hipped side entrance, and a recessed front entrance under a balcony. The facade is asymmetrical and consists of an offset front entrance with fixed and 1/1 double-hung windows. The frame construction is finished in clapboard and rests on a concrete foundation made to look like concrete blocks. The gable-hipped combination roof is covered with green asphalt shingles and features a metal stovepipe. The axis of the main roof is parallel to the street with an extended cross gable bay facing the front and gable extensions off both sides of the main hip roof as well . A flat-roofed addition onthe back is new. Outbuildings include a two-car garage. HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE: Justify how the persons,important events,and/or historical patterns associated with the structure/site and surrounding area lend the property significance. Research in the sources consulted in this- survey has not yielded any significant historical information concerning persons or events associated with this property. This structure qualifies as a -contrib-ut4ng element within a potential historic district due to its association with the residential aspect of the Civic Phase of Bozeman 's historic/architectural development. INTEGRITY. Assess the degree to which the structure/site,and surrounding area accurately convey the historical associations of the property. The historic integrity of this property has been retained due to the survival of original design and materials and continuity of use, setting and location. Unfortunately, due to extensive alteration to the fenestration and porch, and the installation of vinyl siding, the house is non-contributing. Andrew J. Svorkmoe, a local builder, is listed in the 1910-11 city directory as the resident here, and probably built the house. E. Myron Ferris , a real estate agent listed on the 1914 sewer permit as owner, was probably involved with the initial sale of the house.
