This typical , modest Bungalow style house, the significance of which has
been seriously compromised by the addition of a large, raised, shed-roofed
dormer, was probably built for Benjamin A. Dixon, a painter. Dixon later
opened a paint shop on Main St. , and in 1928 collaborated with Bernal H.
Alexander to construct a new commercial block for his business , 17 S. Tracy
(see Main St. Historic District) .
The house is similar to 802 S. Tracy Ave. (see S. Tracy Historic District) ,
which was probably built by William C. Smith, a local builder. This
house may be the work of the same builder.
In 1927 the house was occupied by Daniel S. Williams , the superintendent
of Bozeman city schools.
