PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: Describe present appearance of structure/site,then contrast and compare that with it's original appearance, noting additions,alterations,and changes in materials.Discuss significant architectural features. This detached one-and-one-half story single-family residence has a square plan with a shed roofed front porch and a small gable overdoor above the entry. The two-bay facade is symmetrical and consists of a central front entrance flanked by 1/1 double-hung windows. The frame construction is finished in shingles and rests on a concrete foundation. The hipped-shed roof is covered with cedar shingles and features a shed-roofed dormer with boxed eaves. There is a central brick chimney. The outbuildings include a garage. HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE: Justify how the persons;important events,and/or historical patterns associated with the structurelsite and surrounding area lend the property significance. Research in the sources consulted in this survey has not yielded any significant historical information concerning persons or events associated with this property. The house appears to have been derived from " House Pattern No . 1048" , of Hodgson ' s mail order house pattern catalog : Practical Bungalows and Cottages for Town and Country . The house does not appear on the 1898 bird ' s eye view of the city , but does appear on the Sanborn Map of 1904. Ralph W . Gilman , farm foreman for the Montana Agricultural Extension Station , lived here in the 19 ' teens . At that time , this house may have had • a small subsistence farm associated with it .
