PHYSICALDESCRIPTION: Describe present appearance of structure/site,then contrast and compare that with it's original appearance,
noting additions, alterations, and changes in materials. Discuss significant architectural features.
This detached one-and=one-half story single-family residence has an irregular
plan with a proch spanning the front and one side, supported by turned wood
posts and railing and sitting on a diagonal wood base. The asymmetrical facade
consists of an offset front entrance with 1/1 and 3/1 double-hung windows.
There are two bay windows , one on the front facade and one in the corner of the
entrance bay. The frame construction is finished in 4z" beveled siding with
dentiled fish-patterned shingles in the gable ends. There is a 20" vertical
wainscoting on the main floor porch . The structure rests on a rubble ( limestone
or sandstone) foundation. The elaborate configuration of gable roofs are covered
with cedar shingles and feature shed-roofed and gabled dormers and a central
brick chimney. The axi s of the roof is perpendicular to the street. The
original form of the house is largely intact except for an attached flat-roofed
garage on the side rear.

1985 revision
Matt Cohen , surveyor
One of the best examples of the few turn of the century houses
in the district , this well preserved , Queen Anne/Colonial Revival
style house is very similar to the neighboring 522 W . Main St .
The two may have been built at the same time and by the same builder .
The next house in the row , 606 W . Main St . , is also similar ,
though to a lesser degree .
By the first decade of this century , the house was occupied by
traveling salesman Amsy D. Sprague . By 1927 , James R . Poor ,
owner of the J . R . Poor & Son grocery store on W . Main St . , was
the resident here .
