1985 revision
Matt Cohen , surveyor
A very unusual example of 1930 ' s residential design , this
eaves front , jerkin headed house displays motifs borrowed from
the Queen Anne style , such as the cauted northeast corner , and the
unique , one-story , hexagonal projecting bay . The house was
probably built in 1930 by Henry I . Jacobs , a tailor , and district
manager of the Woodmen of the World fraternal organization . It
was built between 516 and 522 W . Main St . , two very similar
houses apparently built as a pair on large , adjacent lots ,
which predate this house by about 30 years .
Jacobs , who in the late 1920 ' s ran "Jacob ' s Costume Shop" at
613 W . Lamme St . , according to an updated 1927 Sanborn Map ran
a dry cleaning business from a rear wing of this house .
