519 W . Babcock
1985 revision
Matt Cohen , surveyor
One of a striking row of five houses ( 507 , 511 , 515 , 519 ,
and 523 W . Babcock) built around 1911 by local builder Elmer
L . Bartholomew , this house is an excellent example of both
the Bungalow style , and of this specific , eaves front ,
Bungalow house type . Bartholomew built several virtually
identical houses throughout the district , such as 504 W .
Main St . nearby , 705 S . 6th Ave . , and 522 S . 6th Ave . The
unique design of the porch , shared by the latter three houses
noted , is the clearest indication of Bartholomew ' s style .
This streetscape is one of the earliest indications of
Bozeman ' s substantial early 20th century building boom ,
which began around 1910 and which picked up considerable
momentum in the ensuing decade .
Little is known of the early residents of this house . In
1927 , W . E . Krueger and his wife , Gladys G . Krueger , were
living here . Krueger was listed in the 1916- 17 city directory
as a " driver" for the Thomas H . Rea & Co . grocery ( see 11
E . Main St) .
