523 W . Babcock
1985 revision
Matt Cohen , surveyor
One of a striking row of five houses ( 507 , 511 , 515 , 519
and 523 W . Babcock) built around 1911 by local builder Elmer
L . Bartholomew , this house is a very fine example of the
Bungalow style , despite the present asbestos shingle sheathing .
It is very similar in plan and overall design to 507 , 511 and
515 W . Babcock St . This streetscape is one of the earliest
indications of Bozeman ' s substantial early 20t-h century
building boom , which began around 1910 and which gained
considerable momentum in the ensuing decade .
Little is known of the early occupants of this house . In
1927 , Rev . James M . Jenson , pastor for the Hope Lutheran
Church , and his wife , Anna M. Jenson , were living here . They
were not here in 1925 .
