Babcock 1985 revision j Matt Cohen , surveyor One of the numerous virtually identical , vernacular Queen Anne style houses found in the northeastern part of this district , this house retains substantial architectural signi - ficance despite the installation of asbestos shingle sheathing , and other alterations such as the enclosure of the porch . The design was derived from house pattersn made available through mail order catalagues . "House Design No . 1976" in Hodgson ' s catalogue for example , is very similar to this design ( see appendix) . Being one of the first houses built in this area of the city , the house was erected prominently at the head of S . 6th Ave . The early history of the house remains obscure . In 1927 , George H . Demorest , a mailman , was living here . Bib1io9ra by Sanborn maps , 1904 ( house not shown ) , 1912 ( house shown ) . City directory , 1927 , pp . 53 , 158 Hodgson
