Perhaps the single best example in the city of the Craftsman
style , this spacious house was built for Dr . C . Floyd Jump
when he married Miss Genevieve Evangeline Benepe , daughter of
Frank L . Benepe - an important figure in Bozeman history . The
house was built on land adjacent to the large lot of Benepe ' s
mansion , 201 S . 3rd . Construction of the house began in the summer
of 1909 , following the wedding , which took place in Benepe ' s
house . Benepe was Bozeman ' s leading agricultural implement and
grain dealer from the mid-1880 ' s until the turn of the century
( see 104 W . Main St . )
In 1927 , Herman C . Dempewolf and his wife Nell D. Dempewolf
were living here. By 1933 , Floyd L . Dye , president of the
F. L . Dye Co . located at 30 W . Main St. had occupied the house .
The F . L . Dye Co . was the descendant firm of the D. H . Budd Co . -
probably the leading plumbing and heating company in the city ,
which was responsible for installing the plumbing in the
majority of houses in the district .
In the 1950 ' s , the house served as the parsonage for the First
Methodist Episcopal Church .
The most notable features of the Craftsman style ( displayed by
this house ) include the overall form , the stucco finish , the grouped ,
small sash windows , and the Cobblestone piers that support the
second floor overhanging bay . The design appears to have been
based on " Cottage Disign No . 3047" in Hodgson ' s mail order house
pattern catalog , Practical Bungalows and Cottages for Town and
Country .
