Olive 1985 revision Matt Cohen , surveyor Probably built by Albert Brandley soon after his settlement in Bozeman in 1888 from Ohio , this modest house is an important element in a very early streetscape in this district . The house has undergone significant alteration . Brandley is listed in the 1892-3 city directory ( the earliest available ) as a "merchant" , at an address which seems to describe the location of this house ( building numbers for this area were not yet in use ) . In 1916 Brandley was president of Ellis Brandley & Co . , a hardware store on Main St . In 1927 the house was still in the Brandley family , with Mrs . E . J . Brandley living in it . As seen in a c . 1905 photograph , the house originally had two full - size , 1/ 1 sash windows protruding up into the two gable wall dormers , and a Queen Anne style porch with an ornate , scroll - sawn balustrade enclosing a balcony above it . The house presently has very small windows in the dormers , and an enclosed , projecting porch with a shed roof - two significant detractions from the historic integrity of the house .
