Curtiss 1985 revision Matt Cohen , surveyor One of the best individual examples of numerous very similar Queen Anne style houses in the district due to degree of ornamentation , this house is also significant as part of a group of four similar houses on this block . While the ornate bay window and porch remain well preserved , the main block has unfortunately been covered with asbestos shingle sheathing . The house design appears to have been derived from patterns in house catalogs such as Fred T . Hodgson ' s Practical Bungalows and Cottages for Town and Country . In that catalog , House Design Nos . 1032 , 1038 and 1076 are similar to this one ( see appendix) . The houses that stand adjacent to this one which are very similar are 419 , 423 and 427 W . Curtiss . The houses were probably built at the same time and by the same builder . All were built after 1904 , and are therefore late examples of the Queen Anne style . By at least as early as 1916 , James P . Bole was living here . Bole was a receiver at the U . S . Land Office , and editor of the Bozeman Chronicle in that year . In the 1910- 11 and 1912- 13 directories , Bole , listed as the editor of the Bozeman Chronicle , was listed as living four houses to the west , at 427 W . Curtiss . A relative , William M . Bole , manager and eventually president of the Bozeman Chronicle , lived at 507 S . 8th Ave . for about the first 30 years of this century .
