This detached two-story single-family residence has a rectangular plan with an open hipped front porch with gable overdoor. There is an attached flat-roofed garage. The two-bay facade is asymmetrical and consists of an off=center front entrance with fixed and 1/1 double-hung windows with shutters and leaded glass. The frame con- struction is finished in shingles and rests on a concrete foundation. The gable roof is covered with cedar shingles and features overhanging eaves. The axis of the roof is perpendicular to the street. HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE: Justify how the persons,important events,and/or historical patterns associated with the structure site and surrounding area lend the property significance. Research in the sources consulted in this survey has not yielded any significant historical information concerning persons or events associated with this property. This structure qualifies as a contributing element within a potential historic district due to its association with the residential aspect of the Civic Phase of Bozeman's historic/architectural development. INTEGRITY: Assess the degree to which the structure/site,and surrounding area accurately convey the historical associations of the property. Hartman , a carptenter who moved to Bozeman from Ennis sometime between 1904 and 1901 . Hartman lived here until about 1914 , when he probably built 421 W .
