824 S. Tracy
The last of numerous houses built in the city by local carpenter Guy Ensinger,
{ this well preserved, modestly detailed Bungalow provides a strong termination for
the southern end of the district, especially when seen together with 822 S. Tracy
next to it, another of the strongest architectural elements in the district.
1 Construction of this house, which began in 1917, was delayed when Guy Ensinger
ran into financial trouble. P.C. Waite took over the property at that point,
completed construction of the house, and rented it for several years, one of his
tenants being Hurlburt C. Cheever, a Montana State College professor. Ensinger
retired to become a "gasoline power farmer", leasing about 1500 acres in Big Horn
County and becoming one of the early completely mechanized farmers of his day
(Weekl Courier, March 27, 1918, p.l) . Gardner C. Waite, an insurance and real
estate salesman, bought this house from his father, P.C. Waite, around 1932, and
lived in it for several years.
