820 (8.18) S. Tracy
The only non-contributing structure in the district, this severely altered
Bungalow style house nevertheless retains its original massing, and enough of its
detailing to continue the rhythm and scale of the streetscape. It is one of
three houses in the district built by carpenter Elmer L. Bartholomew.
While ownership records are incomplete, Bartholomew bought the land and applied
for a sewer permit in 1917 - a likely date of construction. The 1933 and 1935-6
city directories list Harrison S. Mendenhall, a Montana State College professor
living here.
Alterations, which appear to have occurred around 1970, include the removal of a
gable front porch similar to others in the district, near complete alteration of
the fenestration, and the addition of an exterior brick dado and diminished
chimney.
