PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: Describe present appearance of structure/site,then contrast and compare that with it's original appearance, noting additions,alterations,and changes in materials.Discuss significant architectural features. This two-and-one-half story multi-family residence has a rectangular plan with a projected central bay two stories high surrounding the main entrance. The one-bay facade is symmetrical and consists of the central bay entry with 6/6 double-hung windows. The poured-in-place concrete has a 3" form board pattern showing, as well as diagonal patterns ,pilasters , and a decor- ative cornice. The structure rests on a concrete foundation and has a flat built-up roof. HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE: Justify how the persons,Important events,and/or historical patterns associated with the structure/site and surrounding area lend the property significance. This property is significant due to its association with Fred F. Willson who designed the building. H.J. Hamill was a local builder and contractor who built the property. Wilson is a son of General Lester Willson , an early Bozeman resident. Fred Willson was born in 1877 in Bozeman and attended Columbia University in architecture and studied two years abroad. He first practiced with C.S.Haire in Helena. In his large Bozeman practice from 1910 to 1956, he designed many public commercial and residential buildings . This structure is potentially eligible for the National Register because of its historical associations and because of its architectural significance. The historic integrity of this property has been retained due to the survival of original design and materials and continuity of use, setting and location.
