Dear School Board and other interested parties:
1. I feel that the existing footprint should not expand. We are teaching and promoting
an ethic to kids that carbon emission is fine and expanding it is great. Use of existing
platforms after some demolition brings forward a real conservation ethic under the
mantra, “Reduce, reuse, recycle.” For example, tearing down the old wing at corner of
Main and 11th
and replacing it with as many as 3 stories. Another example is the use of
the existing stadium footprint. I am not persuaded that a somewhat scaled down
version could not allow both locker rooms and other facilities under stands right in the
same place as now exists. Our high school should lead the way in preserving green
space not in eliminating it.
2. We keep going “Cadillac” for conspicuous consumption. Current property tax payers
can’t keep this up. Until we have another revenue source we need to be more judicious
and be ok with a Ford. It is entirely possible that soon some long-time residents nearing
the end of 30-year mortgages could have tax bills exceeding their principal payments
once their homes are paid off!
3. Lottery driving permits- we should be discouraging personal cars! Encourage
carpooling, buses, other transit. BHS is missing many teachable moments here.
Thank you for your consideration.
