Hello,
I am not in support of this plan.
1. The school distrcit should NOT be outside of the city's ordinances in the first
place. Maybe when this was enacted way back when we had no idea Bozeman
would become so huge, this made sense - but no longer. The school is in the
city. It should follow the city's rules. Why should the school be above the law?
Just because it's convenient for them? The city rules are in place to protect
everyone's interests in a place where population density is high. There is no
good reason the school should be outside this besides their own convenience.
2. As a homeowner in the area, I have serious concerns about further damage to
the value of my home based on what they plan to do. What is the plan for
mitigating traffic? It sounds to me that the school board is willing to do whatever
it takes to save money on this project...and since there's no such thing as a free
lunch, that means the neighbors shoulder the bill by our property decreasing in
value.
3. What kind of impact is this construction project going to have on the air quality
in our neighborhood? With the "dry cleaner's plume" affecting all the dirt in the
area, kicking all this dust up has me concerned for my health, my neighbors,
and the kids.
4. Where are all these people going to park? I know at least some of the local
streets have parking regulations that you can't park their during the day, but this
ends at 4 or 5pm. I can foresee stadium parking filling up the limited, narrow
street of 15th Ave. Where will my friends park when they come over for dinner?
Where will the renters across the street park their cars? Does the convenience
of the school outweigh our right as landowners and those who live here?
5. What about the light and sound pollution? I'm not interested in having bright
lights right across the street from my house. Nor am I interested in hearing the
football games.
6. Whose going to help me back in our out of my driveway during high traffic
times? Please assign us a safety officer, much like those who sit at school
crosswalks to help little kids cross the street, we'll need one of those. Please let
me know who I should send the bill to when decreased visibility from all the
parked cars creates an accident when I'm trying to pull in or out of my driveway.
(yet another way we will be expected to carry the cost the school board is trying
to "save money" on)
7. What's the 20 and 50 year plan for Bozeman's schools, given that we are one of
the fastest growing cities in the nation? Does this plan fit into what will be
needed in 20-50 years' time?
This needs a comprehensive plan, and it needs to not be rushed. I'm not willing to
shoulder the cost of the school board's poor planning through the impacts it will have
on my neighborhood.
Thank you,
Julia
