REPORT TO: Honorable Mayor and City Commission
FROM: Rick Hixson, City Engineer
SUBJECT: Utilities Agreement with Montana Department of Transportation
Rouse Avenue Main Street to Oak Street Project
AGENDA ITEM TYPE: Consent
MEETING DATE: January 29, 2018
RECOMMENDATION: Authorize the City Manager to execute the Utilities Agreement
with the Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) for water and sewer main adjustments
required for the Rouse Avenue, Main Street to Oak Street Reconstruction Project.
BACKGROUND: MDT plans to reconstruct Rouse Avenue between Oak Street and Main
Street in the near future, most likely the summer of 2019. As part of that project a number of city
owned water and sewer utility elements will need to be adjusted or re-located. The attached
agreement is MDT's standard utility agreement for such work and spells out the responsibilities
of each party with respect to those adjustments/relocations. The State of Montana pays for 75%
of these relocation/adjustments ($37,657.75) and the City is required to pay 25% ($12,552.58)
plus indirect costs of 11% ($1,595.89). This is a standard agreement that the City has entered
into on many other projects.
UNRESOLVED ISSUES: None.
FISCAL EFFECTS: The City share of this obligation amounts to $16,156.88 and will be paid
for using water and sewer enterprise funds.
ALTERNATIVES: As suggested by the City Commission.
