Mayor Andrus and Commissioners,
I want to recommend a change in the City Commission's rules/procedures/process.
As chair of one of the City's official advisory boards, I find it frustrating that I have to limit my public
comment to three minutes. I'm speaking on behalf of a group of individuals whom you have appointed to provide
you input but you don't allow the group's spokesperson to speak on the group's behalf any more time than you
allow a single member of the public. Of course, multiple members of
a group could speak each getting three minutes thereby giving the group more than just three minutes but that
requires much more time to plan and "orchestrate" and is not as good as having a single official spokesperson.
I would suggest a time limit of 5-6 minutes for an official spokesperson of an official City advisory board.
There possibly is another remedy. One City administrator once suggested to me that official spokespersons for
official advisory boards should be treated the same as City staff in addressing agenda items.
Thanks for your consideration.
Ralph
