Subject: New Park Proposal
To Whom it May Concern,
My name is Ed Johnson and I am a resident of the Southbrook Condo Neighborhood near College St and and 23rd
Ave.
Recently, a very old, likely condemned home on the northeast corner of College and 23rd was demolished and I’m
guessing it was at the direction of the city. First of all, thank you for removing what was a blighted property in the
neighborhood. Secondly, I’d like to get to what this email concerns, which is a proposal for putting a public park on
the aforementioned property.
I’m not sure what, if any, plans the city has for this property, but I believe a great use for the space would be to add
a public park. The nearest public parks to this part of town are: The Bozeman Pond to the west down college quite a
way; down College to the east a long way to 8th and Cooper Park, or North a long way, across 19th and on up to
Kirk Park. There are many residents in this area of town, either at the various condos and apartments, the homes
North of College and the Wagon Wheel Trailer Park. I know this area is known for college student living, but there
are plenty of residents who are not students as well. I’ve seen families with small kids trying to enjoy the area by
just hanging out by large trees and by the small creeks around the neighborhood.
If this city has jurisdiction over this property’s use, I would love to see it become a public park for family use,
picnics etc. While at the intersection of two busy streets, it would be in a perfect place for use by local residents. It
would brighten up the neighborhood and give residents a closer place to play than walking a mile or more to the
other parks. I would be happy to share more of my vision for what the park could be and the reasons for it with
anyone at the City, including the commission. Thank you for your time and consideration and I look forward to
hearing back from you soon!
Best,
-Ed Johnson
