Incident Narrative: Bozeman Firefighters were dispatched to an audible alarm with smoke in the
building. Upon arrival it was determined that the smoke was in fact exhaust
from a furnace and that the building was secure. The signaling alarm was a
system malfunction. Rocky Mountain Security reported the incident and the
Bozeman Police assited in the investigation.

Incident Narrative: Bozeman Firefighters were dispatched to the scene of a reported power
transformer fire at the West entrance to the alley on North lOth between Main
and Mendenhall. Firefighters observed power lines arcing due to an insulator
failure. This failure sent 2400 volts directly to ground and set the base of the
power pole on fire. Firefighters extinguished the fire with a 10# ABC but the
energized ground wire immediately caused the pole to rewignite. Montana
Power officials arrived on the scene and cut the power to the line. Bozeman
Police Officers were on hand for safety and traffic control.

Incident Narrative: We received a call that the fire alarm was activated at the Holiday Inn. Upon
arrival, we discovered that unsupervised juveniles had vandelized smoke
detectors with water pistols. We were unable to find the offenders. Note-
Cap1. Miller injured his hand on the front door and required medical attention
at the E.R.

Incident Narrative: We responded to reported vehicle fire at 808 W. Durston. On arrival we
observed a passenger vehicle parked in a driveway with the engine
compartment fulley involved. After gaining entry underneath the hood, the
fire was extinguished with a I 1/2 inch line. The driver was not available so
the Bozeman Police were called and responded. Fire cause was most likely a
fuel leak.

Patient had fainted before we arrived, upon our arrival he was AAOX3 and wanted to refuse treatment and
transport. While we were talking with Mr. Olson he became unresposive and needed assistance sitting
upright. We applied oxygen to Mr. Olson by mask and he once again became AAOX3. Halls personnel were
delayed in their arrival at the scene.

Incident Narrative: Bozeman Firefighters responded to the scene of a reported structure fire in
the kitchen. Prior to our arrival at the fire scene the dispatcher notified
responding engines that the fire was out but the house was full of smoke.
Firefighters secured the scene, ejected smoke from the building, and removed
the light fixture. Ms. Schaeffer was schooled about the extreme importance of
operational smoke detectors in the home.

Incident Narrative: Bozeman fire department responded to 205 No. Broadway to a reported
chimney fire. The chimney fire was out on arrival and only hot embers were
left in the cap. Investigation revealed a lot of creosote still in the stack. The
resident was addvised not to use the stove until the stack was cleaned. The
smoke detector was checked and found inoperative. It had no battery. The
resident was addvised to get a battery for the smoke detector before retiring for
the night.

Incident Narrative: Bozeman Firefighters responded to a structure fire at 1901 South Grand
Ave.Upon arrival firefighters found a small room and contents fire that had
been partially extinguished by a neigbor. Firefighters finished extinguishing
the fire and administered Oxygen to one patient. Fire was caused by a candle
on top of a TV that ignited nearby combustibles. A smoke detector was
present but did not activate because the battery was missing.

Mr. Anderson complained of a broken left wrist and a small cut on his right little finger. He stated he was
worried about loosing his consciousness and felt light headed. He insisted on smoking a cigarette to keep

splint and packaging and loading of the patient. Mr. Anderson was taking medication for a Blood clot
condition he had. Also the patient was taking high blood pressure medicine. He stated he fell in the garage

Caused by: Since the fire originated in a area where there was no ignition source we are very suspicious
of it's cause. There was a small hole in the wall separating the room from the corridor
approxmately three inches off the floor. There were posters stored between the cabinet and
the wall on the inside. It appears the fire started when a source of heat (match, cigarette,etc)
was placed through the hole which started the posters and cabinet on fire. The fire appears to

Incident Narrative: Bryan Dingman, manager of Sports & Courts, called on our business line and
expressed his concern about an unusual odor in the West end of the building.
After investigating, Firefighters determined the smell to be coming from a
furnace on the exterior of the West end of the building. Firefighters removed
the access panel to the fan motor and filter area and found the filters to be
plugged with ice. This situation was causing the furnace to starve for air and
causing the unit to overheat. Firefighters advised Mr. Dingman to leave the
access panel off and contact a certified repairman to correct the situation.

Incident Narrative: Bozeman Fire Fighters responded to the report of a structure fire at 1616
W.Durston. Fire Fighters arrived and found a large amount of smoke in the
building. It is believed that the fire was caused by woodstove ashes placed on
the deck outside of the building. The Fire was intially knocked down by the
tenants using a portable dry chemical extinquisher. Fire Fighters completed
extinquishment during overall and investigation. Smoke detectors were
present and operated quickly alerting the residents to evacuate the structure.
Fire Fighters believe that the lives of the residents were saved due to the
presents of properly maintained smoke detectors.

another report from dispatch that the address was 1420 W. Koch. Ew2
proceeded to the first address and found a dumpster fire and extinguished it.

found that there had been a fire in a dumpster there also; however the residents
there had put it out. No cause for either fire was found.

Incident Narrative: Station 1 personnel responded to 1101 E. Babcock to a reported chimney fire.
On arrival they found that the occupants had shut off the air to the stove and
the chimney fire was under control , but still smoldering. Engine 1 personnel
removed the chimney cap and droped a plastic bag of dry chemical
extinguishing agent down the stack. This helped to extinguish the rest of the
smoldering creosote. The residents were advised not to use the stove again
until they had the stack inspected for damage. We also checked out their
smoke detector and found it to be in good working order.

Incident Narrative: Fire personnel responded to 1201 So. 3rd. to a reported residential fire. On
arrival they found a fire that was all but out. The resident and a neighbor had
used snow and water from a kitchen container to fight the fire. After
overhauling the fire and talking to the resident we found that he had used a
wooden box to remove the ashes from his wood stove. After he got rid of the
ashes he put the wooden box back next to the wood pile. The wooden box
must have had a small live ember left in it. Damage was confined to the
outside of the house.
