Caused by: The owner had the car repaired in Great Falls on Saturday because of broken belts and fluid leaks in the engine compartment. The owner smelled some sort of hot fluid type of smell as he parked the car about 20 minutes prior to the car catching fire. Fire was determined to be caused by mechanical failure. The fire was confined to the engine compartment. The fire was extinguished by flushing the engine compartment with water through the grill in front and from below as we could not get the hood raised until the fire was extinguished. The owner told us he had the car repaired in Great Falls on Saturday. He said he smelled a hot fluid smell as he left the car about 20 minutes prior to the fire starting. Our investigation showed two breakers were the source of the smoke. We could not find any reason for the breakers to be so hot so we advised the manager to call the owner and get an electrician to look at the problem. The main shut off on the south side of the building was shut off when we left to return to the station. This gas line had been unmarked by Montana Power's locator. Montana Power called in their emergency response team to stop the gas leak. Bozeman Fire responded with three engines and six firefighters. The Fire Department assisted Montana Power's emergency response team with three firefighters in SCBA's and portable fire extinguisher and 1 1/2 inch hose line ready at the excavation site.
